Last night was super fun. I drove my ass down to Ypsilanti and picked up Oninotaki. We went to the Depot District and ate dinner at a bar called Sidetracks. It was pretty good. Apparently it's supposed to be the best place for burgers according to Oprah. Why the fuck would Oprah ever be in Ypsi, I have no idea.
From there we headed to downtown Ann Arbor and The Blind Pig. There was already a line out the door when we got there. The first band hadn't even gone on yet and the place was packed. Unfortunately, Passion Pit had canceled and So Many Dynamos jumped on the bill. They were pretty interesting. I loved the fact that they announced to the crowd "We need someplace to stay tonight!" I don't know if they got any offers.
The second band was Cut Off Your Hands, from Auckland, New Zealand. They weren't too bad. Lots of energy. I did think however, that the red headed drummer needed to shy away from the Flock of Seagulls-esque hair.
A little after midnight, Ra Ra Riot came on. There are 6 people in the band and they managed to fit themselves and all their instruments on the little stage. The violinist was definitely the focal point. She was so bubbly and full of energy. I had no idea one could play the violin so well while jumping up and down and dancing. I was surprised to learn that female backing vocals were that of the cello player and not the violinist. I suppose it would be hard to sing and play violin at the same time. heh. I also liked that when any one member of the band wasn't playing their respective instrument, they played some other instrument. Everyone always stayed busy. It was a lot of fun and the crowd loved them. I'm really glad I went.
