Well happy 2009 everyone.
2008 is out the door. I can't say that it's been that great. No, in fact it's been a wasted worried year.
Did you catch that lyric? Oh well then you must know it's time for my Top 10 Albums of 2008!
Since EvanX did his, I better do mine.
It may surprise you that they're not all the same.
Murder By Death - Red Of Tooth & Claw was probably my most favorite album of the year. I love Adam's voice and lyrics and you just have to appreciate the beautiful cello playing. Fuego! is my favorite song (becuz it is pure sex) with Spring Break 1899 a very close second....that song simply for the lyric 'There's a drained bourbon bottle laying next to my head and the piss and the vomit state are the sheets on my bed.' I don't know why, but the power of that gets me every time.
The Black Keys - Attack & Release - Living so close to Akron, OH for so long, you think I would've known about these guys much sooner, but alas, I unfortunately did not. The entire album is beautiful, powerful, and soulful. I love it. Things Ain't Like They Used To Be is one of the best.
The Kills - Midnight Boom - I first heard Sour Cherry on Left Of Center (now Sirius XM University) I really liked the song. When I got the album, it was clear that was one of the songs that stood out the least. I can listen to Tape Song, Black Balloon, and Goodnight Bad Morning over and over but my favorite is Last Day Of Magic.
Grand Buffet - King Vision - I love lyricists that use big words. Rapping big words=
While some of King Vision has a serious side...ok serious for Grand Buffet...it has it's silliness to it as well. Ever since I heard Dark Autumn on The Haunted Fucking Gazebo Ep it's been my favorite. Cream Cheese Money always makes me laugh.
Santogold - Santogold - It took me forever to track this album down earlier this year. No one had it and I had to special order it oddly enough. I love it though. It's so fun to play loudly and sing a long with. I'm A Lady and Lights Out are my favoritest.
The Raconteurs - Consolers Of The Lonely - An all around great album. I hate the White Stripes, but put Jack White with Brendan Benson and I'm in love. Many Shades Of Black is probably my favorite song on there.
Crystal Castles - Crystal Castles I can't remember if I first heard this band on Left of Center (now Sirius XM University) or if it was the Lights In The Sky North American Tour 2008 Sampler put out by NIN. Whichever it was, I was hooked when I heard Crimewave (Crystal Castles Vs. Health). I was a little weary of buying the album though, since the song I loved was technically 2 artists. My worries were cast aside when I put in the album and heard Untrust Us which quickly became my favorite. I dare you to listen to the album and not get all dancey!
Horrorpops - Kiss Kiss Kill Kill Evan gave me this album for Valentine's Day and I wasn't sure I liked it at first. It's not the same as Bring It On!, which I loved. Songs like Copenhagen Refugee and Thelma & Louise put their hooks in me though and it grew to be another favorite.
MGMT - Oracular Spectacular What can I say? The songs are catchy and fun. I especially love Electric Feel. It makes me dance.
Jaguar Love - Take Me To The Sea While I miss the other voice of The Blood Brothers, the album is too good to pass up. I find myself with My Organ Sounds Like... stuck in my head, even though I don't know the words.
Runners up:
Eagles Of Death Metal - Heart On Unfortunately I just didn't listen to this album as much as I should have. It's fun, but it just didn't hook me like Death By Sexy.
TV on the Radio - Dear Science, Like EODM, I just didn't listen to this album as much as I should have. I love the song Family Tree though. It's absolutely beautiful.
Repo! The Genetic Opera - Original Soundtrack (Seriously, if you haven't seen this movie, you need to. It comes out on dvd this month!) After seeing the movie I could NOT get the songs outta my head. Now Amber Sweet is addicted to the knife. Addicted to the knife? Addicted to the knife!
Agree or disagree, there be my opinion.

On a less stingy note, that deterrent might piss off my neighbor's cat. She & I tolerate each other, so I'd hate to topple that balance.
