When exhaustion catches up with a man, all hell breaks loose in his life.
I sit here amongst my piles of unattended necessary filth, wondering when the fuck am I ever going to get to it all. I take a bite out of it as largely and as often as I can, but it never seems to subside. Some days, a lit match seems the best answer.
Ideally, the best answer is a good night's rest. I can't recall the last time I had a full eight hours (in a row) of restful sleep. Unfortunately, life will not grant me such a privelege unless I give up a few other priveleges that I so desire, such as working to make rent and buy groceries..
Heat from the summer sun does so much more than just "beat down"... it seeps through and infects the entire space, akin to a leaky pipe that saturates the carpet and warps the floor boards; there is no easy way to clear it all out without some damage control.
That reminds me of the masses of junk mail and paperwork that gather about my humble desk. I have long forgotten the color of the wood beneath my computer.
Aye, but simply because all is hot and messy does not mean that all is lost and forgotten. Life may be difficult, yet it is not unbearable or sorrowful. I just have to force myself to remember those glorious facts, otherwise the sorrow, much like the heat and the mess, will slowly seep into my soul and require more damage control.
Motto for this new epoch: When the world sucks, lie to yourself. It's the only way to get along in this world.
