New recipe for y'all
More of an assortment of palatable non-sequiturs to enjoy together. I was on a Mediterranean kick tonight, and fixed some stuff inspired by Moun of Tunis to bring to my friend's house for dinner. In case you were wondering, We watched Alias and The Practice, as is our new ritual for Sunday Night.
Turkey Meat Balls
Start with a pound ground turkey (chicken works too). Add a handful of finely chopped cilantro, a yellow onion, also chopped fine, about 1/3 cup breadcrumbs, and a generous pinch of salt and pepper. Mix together. Make into meatballs about 1 1/2 to 2 inches thick and fry in oil until cooked through, turning for even cooking.
Curried tomato salad
Chop one large salad tomato (or two romas) into 1/2 inch cubes. Score, seed, and slice a cucumber into 1/2 inch cubes. Sprinkle with a pinch of salt, pepper, and curry powder. Toss together and let set for 5 minutes at least.
Roasted Bell Pepper Salad - truly inspired by Moun of Tunis
Cut 2-3 red bell peppers in half, removing cores and seeds. Place in broiler, skin side up, for about 5-7 minutes, or until skin is blackened. Allow to cool enough to handle. The charred skin should slide off easily. Don't fret about the skin that didn't slide off so easy. Dice (or mince in food processor) and douse with a splash of white vinegar.
I'd share my tzatziki recipe with you all, but then my Greek friend who shared the recipe with me would be forced to put a hit out on me.
Anyway, I made all this up, scooped up some kalmatta olives, got some good fresh Armenian bread, and bought a tub of good spicy hummus and brought the whole kaboodle over to my dear friend's house...
Which brings me to another topic... when is it a good idea to cross the line of friendship? I was considering it with this woman I know. I'm attracted to her, but I don't want to make a move on the wrong reasons.
a) she's the "next one to come around", and don't want that to be my motivation for risking a friendship
b) she reminds me a lot of one of my ex's (and incidentally, that ex and I were friends first for many years)
c) I'm not sure I want a relationship in my life right now, even though all the "perks" would be nice.
But then again...
a) we do "click"
b) the attraction is mutual, as has been the flirting
c) it's been a looong time since the last one to come along, and the world isn't exactly beating a path to my door.
