Tore through the first of the "Dexter" novels in about two days, and am about halfway through the second. I dig that they're written in first-person, because I can totally hear Michael C. Hall's voice narrating in my head as I read. They're much darker in tone than the series, and some of the characters are different. Not to mention events happening COMPLETELY differently than the story I was already accustomed to. It sort of feels like an alternate universe, with the same cast of characters. But I'm okay with it.
I know this is sort of the exact opposite of my opinion on "Seeker," as referenced in a previous entry, and it may seem like a double standard. I'm alright with that. You can suck it.
Caught the new Bond flick on Sunday afternoon. Tons of action, decent story, and further proof that not only is Daniel Craig a complete fucking badass, he's definitely the best Bond ever. I know, I know - "Sean Connery! Roger Moore!" Fuck em. Craig's portrayal of Bond is actually humanizing, not to mention believable. After dude has been through a 10-minute action sequence, his clothes are torn up, his face is bruised and bloody, and he looks like shit that's been run over about four times. How often did you see Connery or Moore take a severe ass-beating?
Not to mention that the new Bond flicks don't have cars that become invisible or supervillians with diamonds and shit stuck in their fucking faces. Whose idea was that, anyway?
Last night we had an impromptu "Rock Band" session at Casa del Kate.
Actually, we're gonna call it Casa del Booze, because it's Dave's nickname, and it also accurately describes what we're generally doing over there.
So anyway. I drove over there with all of my kickass plastic instruments, then had to make a trip back to my house to get the actual disc, which I had left on the table in the living room. When that was all sorted out, we played for a few hours, and I FINALLY got to rock out to the Red Hot Chili Peppers tracks I downloaded like a month ago. I hypothesized that last night, hanging out in Kate and Dave's living room, I was as close as I was ever going to come to my goal of fronting a Chili Peppers cover band.
But it was still awesome, and I still know all the words to "Sir Psycho Sexy," even though the fucking game saw fit to censor half the goddamn song.
No work tomorrow. The usual Tuesday ritual of doing laundry and catching up on this week's TV offerings will commence in just a few hours. For now, I continue to drink whiskey and hang out in front of the computer. Maybe some late-night gaming is in the cards? It's been a few days since I eviscerated someone with a chainsaw.
Oh, and FUCK "Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe." Seriously. Right in the mouth.
