I just watched Barack Obama's victory speech, and I'm not the least bit ashamed to say that I was moved to tears. Granted, the whiskey I've been consuming for most of the evening probably helped contribute to my emotional state, but this is a cause for celebration.
In two months, we will inaugurate a president that will work tirelessly to bring about the change that this nation so desperately needs. After years of sending our troops overseas to fight in a war that we never should've begun, and after watching Wall Street CEOs line their pockets with cash while working-class citizens can no longer afford to stay in their homes and provide for our families, we finally reached a breaking point.
Change is coming, and while it certainly won't happen overnight, this victory is a clear sign that the spirit of the American people is alive and well, and that whether we're young or old, white or black, rich or poor, if we speak loud enough in one voice, we will be heard.
I'm so very proud to have played my part in this historic moment, and I look to the next four years with great anticipation for the change that lies just over the horizon.
