I picked up my new contacts on Tuesday afternoon. Much, much better than the first attempt. I'm still having issues under low lighting conditions, but the constant blurriness while my eyes keep trying to focus and unfocus has gone away. So far, so good.
I also finally managed to get a haircut. I was long overdue for that. Pictures soon.
So, after missing her initial connecting flight from Denver, Mia arrived yesterday afternoon. The combination of jet lag and time zone change had her a bit disoriented, so yesterday was pretty low-key. We met up with Asian Dave for lunch at In-N-Out, where Miss Mia discovered that the food was every bit as good as I've been telling her for the past few years. After an unsuccessful trip to find me some new sunglasses, we picked up some booze and headed over to hang out with Dave (not the Asian one).
Unfortunately, we didn't purchase nearly enough alcohol to make the 2008 version of "Prom Night" even remotely tolerable. The acting was piss-poor, the writing was terrible, and the death sequences were preposterously repetitive. And what's with making the killer look EXACTLY like Zachary Quinto's first appearance in "Heroes"? Seriously, it was a shameless fucking rip-off. But I'll admit, we did have a good time making fun of the flick, MST3K style.
Mia seems like she's doing well with the whole divorce thing. In fact, she seems like a completely different person now, happy and confident and sure of herself, the way she sued to be before Rob came into the picture and wreaked havoc on her self esteem. I think being away from home for a few days will really do her some good - plus, this is the first chance we've had to really hang out in more than a year, so we plan on having a good time.
Tonight, we're supposed to be meeting up with Kate and Co. for a few drinks at Cue Club. $3 Long Islands? I'm into it.
