It occurs to me that, whether consciously or subconsciously, I've been avoiding a certain subject in my blog entries. I can't think of a particular reason why, but the fact remains that it hasn't been brought up yet, and since this is sort of a time-sensitive issue, I suppose that I need to throw it out there sooner, as opposed to later.
I'm moving back to Arizona.
It's something that I've wanted to do for months now, and I finally feel like I'm a comfortable enough place mentally and emotionally (not to mention financially) to give the desert a second shot. It's no secret that I've missed Arizona pretty much every day since I left, and my most recent visit gave me an opportunity to start laying the groundwork for my imminent return. I'll be transferring with my company (although I'm still waiting to hear what store I'll be inheriting), and I've secured living arrangements with Asian Dave.
The original plan was to rent a moving truck, but the ridiculous cost of such an endeavor has forced me to rethink my strategy. Basically, I'll be doing it just like the last time - cramming everything into my car that I possibly can while still maintaining a degree of comfort for two people, and getting rid of everything else. I've already got some folks interested in my television and entertainment center, but I've also got a bookshelf, a couch, and a bed that are up for grabs, and I'm willing to part with them for a reasonable price. Interested parties should contact me at your convenience.
I'll be leaving Indiana on the evening of May 14th, with Bart accompanying me and flying back to Indiana on the 17th. He never got the opportunity to visit me when I lived out there the first time, so he jumped at the chance to embark on the proverbial Great American Road Trip. We're planning on driving through St. Louis the first night, stopping to sleep for a few hours, and then getting back on the road early the following morning. We might try to do the remainder of the trip all in one stretch, but even if we stop the second night, we'll still be arriving sometime on the afternoon/evening of the 16th. I suppose it will depend largely on the amount of fatigue we and our third companion are experiencing. Yes, there's someone else going as well, relocating to the desert along with yours truly, driving his own car crammed full of his own stuff. However, I don't know that it has become common knowledge, and thus I don't quite feel comfortable calling him out until I know for certain that he's made the announcement himself.
And before anyone asks, of course I'm sad to be leaving Indiana, but I really feel like Phoenix is a better place for me right now, with a lot more opportunity to do the things that I want to do with my life. I wish I could take all of my closest friends with me, and rest assured that both myself and my mysterious compatriot will be trying to convince several of you to relocate. At the very least, I hope some of you will come visit - it's a beautiful place.
So that's it, kids. Five weeks from today, and I'm gone. Hopefully I'll get to spend plenty of time with all of you between now and then.
