The scene confused me because people I knew from school were with my aunts & uncles. Strangers to each other, but they were all pointing and talking amongst each other. No one talked to me.
MY MOM let down one of the rails on my bed and took my closest hand in hers...tears in her eyes made them sparkle...I love you Eric! You were in a car accident caused by a drunk driver. You've been in a coma for two months.
My eyes were clouded...it felt like I could only see into a tunnel. More and more people arrived when word got out that I had awoken. Everyone seemed genuinely happy to see me. I wanted to share in their happiness too, but I had no voice. I HAD NO FUCKIN' VOICE!!
Visiting hours ended and people were ushered out. It's late...I can hear machines humming...beeping-
nurses called to different rooms. I felt a tube in my nose and it felt uncomfortable. I could barely grip the tube and squeeze. I pulled and pulled. My arms didn't even stretch out very far, but I kept pulling and about two feet later the tip finally fell onto my bed. What the #%$@!! A couple nurses came into my room and began driving that tube back up my nose.
Oh shit...what are you doing? It hurts...it hurts-
The nurses and I are in a tug of war the whole night. I pull it out...They shove it in. Again and again.
The next morning...my mom talks with the nurses and they agree not to use the tube anymore. The IV fed me and kept me alive. So during visiting hours people began to feed me. I had hospital food and they had to make it puree so I could swallow it.
"The plates of food kept coming...we ordered double everything and you ate it all." My father told me.
