Though I did have a 97 Dakota...did...not any more.
Stripper?! What?!
How's your friend Mel doing?
- Fuel pump took a shit
- Suspension was fucking tweaked
- 4 new tires (front x2) at 20,000 mi and again at 40,000 due to fucked suspension
- Some module went bad essentially shutting down the entire fuel system
- Dealing with Chrysler to try and get some sort of help or compensation was fruitless.
- over $2000 in repair costs on a 3-year old truck
I think the last thing I screamed into the phone to some GM mucky-muck was:
"I'm 29 (at the time) fucking years old. Do you really think this is the last new car I'm going to buy in my lifetime? And after all your fucking bullshit, do you think I'm going to let any of my friends or family even get near a GM car lot? GO FUCK YOURSELF!"

Went right out and bought a 2000 Nissan Frontier (V6). No problems whatsoever. And with a bed full of band equipment, the Nissan handles WAAAAAAY better than the Dodge when loaded up. And I got more for my $$ with the Nissan.
Sorry bro, that's my experience. Of the handful of Dakotra owners I've talked to, half of them had significant problems with their trucks.
Though recently, I've been thinking about that new Honda Element. It's purpose-built with everything I need in a commuter vehicle. But I'll wait for next year's model. Never buy the first year and all that...
Yay for Mel!
