inspiration doesn't sleep, so why should i?
i burned Bjork's new cd, Medulla, and the Silent Hill 3 OST for Marina earlier and i got to thinking about what i would put these cds in. so i rummaged around and founs the cd case for Vagrant story. right now both discs are sitting comfortably in a folder with all my other games so i ripped the case open and took to illustrator to do several things i always wanted to do.
♥ make a multi layered stencil
♥ do a reverse stencil on a clear medium
♥ fuck with the big 4 cd type cases
so why not do all at the same time. i copied a heart shape i already made in illustrator for my Joan Jett and the ♥s button and added a line for the shaded side of a candy heart. at first i tried the combination of LOVE and HURTS, one for each side of the clear case but candy hearts look better with four big letters, not to mention i diddn't feel like diving in to a typographical nightmare to get the letters to fit.
i got a new stencil font and figured PAIN would be a better juxtaposition to LOVE. after more dicking around with illustrator i printed the designs and started the operation procedure.
now i lay a proof to see how it will look. two blades later i finishe cutting the four designs and layed down the spray adhesive on the front of the stencils. because i'm puttting the paint on the inside of the case lid, i'm working from the front to the back so the first one i use is the drawkcab PAIN and the last stencil i use will be my base color. of the heart.
here i have the registration marked out with tape and the type layer is in place. the paint goes on like this.
after i peel the first layer away this is what i have so far.
the some goes with the next layer.
i diddn't like the way this font came out when i cut it.
all three layers are down
flip it over and li looks like this,
all done. burn in ♥hell♥
