i've been less active for a while here, the last few weekends i've either been playing shows or out wasting my (semi?)valuable time and money. the houston thing was definately a near disastrer experience.

the full story. my friend is into cosplay a.k.a costume play where you dress as a character from an anime, manga, game, band, movie, whatever with mixed results depending of your skill level. well, lisa is pretty damn good at what she does and invited me to a cosplay picnic. the picnic comes around and fuck sleep, its gonna be a rock'n'roll weekend because i burned all the Guitar Wolf cds i have and we'd be blaring that all four hours of the drive.

stephen(who sings in ded-kat) and i set out for the south around 3 am and the drive kicks ass because there were zero cops and traffic. around 5am we take a break at a truckstop that had the lullaby book on tape and an over friendly bathroom attendant. why a truckstop would have a bathroom attendant is beyond me.

dawn starts to crack right on time according to my Boktai GBA game. {tangent}Boktai is a game that uses sunlight to fight vampires and assorted baddies, it has an internal clock to show day and night in the game and when you input your regional data it can predict sunrise and sunset with decent accuracy{/tangent} we stop for gas and sandwich materials, the indian clerk guy ansks if my jacket is "all real leather?" through my sunglasses i say yeah and leave.

entering the outskirts of houston we pass Sam Houston's statue, we give him the finger. the map quest directions told us to takwe the toll road. go figure. i throw the riduiculos $1.50 toll at the machine and make it to the community college around 7am.

on our way to the college, we couldn't help but notice the NOW ENTERING FAITH ZONE road sign followed by several churches starting with "knights of..." we give them all the finger.

we park and check out the campus. no one was there yet, the library had web access in the lobby on the outside of the magnetic security gate thing, i should have logged on from there. we smoke in the courtyard where the picnic is supposed to be and note the "designated free speech zone" sign on the small pavillion stage they have. we stand there and give it the finger, then go back to the truck, i take a nap.

nearing 10am i get my costuime in gear and we head back to the courtyard, still noone there, i call Lisa and they're just getting up. we felt so damn hardcore for being there before Candice, the event coordinator, she's dressed as Solid Snake.

after a while people start trickling in, Lisa is Rikku from FFX-2 and i revel in the fact i had sunglasses on for most of the day. a while later the Chi grils arrive. they are referred to so because they usually double up at conventions ad Chi and Dark Chi from Chobits. tehy help out with stuff and getting people to dign up for the cosplay showcase, they were very persuasive. they help keep the area clean and get their picturesa taken, again i revel behind my sunglasses. i am a bastard.

two voice actors were inveted as guests, one of them was a DICK with capital letters. the showcase time came and a band called Satin Hooks started up the crowd. the showcase itself was fun, with skits good and bad. i gave my best Seiji impression with an emphatic "ROCK AND ROLL!!" and a rock kick. Lisa and her boyfriend Kevin won the best craftmanship and best first time cosplay respectively.

with the picnic over we set sail for home four sheets to the wind. after getting lost twice and finding some food we find our way back to the highway and both fall asleep. i wrestle the sleep for over an hour and then decide to make pull over at a rest stop to pull myself together. the rest of the way untill about 50 mile. outside of dallas i catch microsleeps and sleepdrive the greater part of the trip.

we arrive,more or less , in one piece and i rest untill i head home which is another 30 miles away. wake up in my driveway.

its amazing how there were no cops or accidents on both lags of the trip. i think i'm in the alternate outcome reality where i never get caught.

stay tuned for more storied of somnambulant driving and adventure next time kids!

{addendum: DAMN! did i write that much?}
