our tivo is on the fritz, it seems.

I bought a ethernet card for my DirecTivo and after some hairy telnet/ftp operations I got my DirecTivo on my network at home. There is a group of hackers, mainly using tcl, that create scripts that will allow you to access your tivo over the web, transfer the shows over to your PC (to burn to DVD or VCD), and to generally make the Tivo your subserviant little gizmo.
