I just got back from the eugene SG gathering, or at least I should say stage one of the party. had to leave early of course. although I had the chance to meet some cool people and 2 more future cherrypepper girls. so all and all it was the party of the year, a blast, a shindig. thanks go out to Thursday who organized the whole thing.
and now since the above is a boring entry, here's a little story I wrote for the carbon based mistake issue 10 for you to read before bed:
HANDSHAKE
No one likes him and everyone ignores him at work. He has no friends, is 35 and married with one son. He's been working his way up the ladder in the company that employs him for 15 years. It never matters what rung he's on, everyone will still hate him. Once, before his demotion, he yelled at a woman he worked with for a mistake she had made. She told him that because of his personality no one would ever like him. She told him this to hurt him. He had to leave the building so no one would see him cry. Everyone had seen, he realized when he returned, and a new kind of humiliation overcame him. He works out and takes boxing lessons to compensate for his weakness. He comes home and tells his family lies. He tells them how much fun he has at work with all of his friends. He tells them all the funny things they joke about and all the laughs they share. He doesn't mention the time a new employee shook his hand and how great it felt. She ignores the feeling she gets when his stories contradict each other, and stops asking that he invite some of his friends over for dinner. His wife prefers to believe him and is proud of her strong and wonderful husband. His son sees the sadness in his father's eyes, and begins to understand that he is lying. He grows up to disrespect his father who loves him more than anything in the world.
