Hello!
It has been awhile since I have done blog homework but I wanted to let you know how I spread holiday cheer. First off I should tell you that I have 2 boys. When my oldest found out about Santa Clause I told him that Santa wasn't a person but is a feeling. To be a Santa is to create magic and joy for someone. It is a big responsibility to create magic for someone and have them not know where it comes from, just give them the gift of believing in the magic of the universe.
So the first year he started talking about who he was going to be Santa for in July, always on the sly so his little brother wouldn't hear. He was so excited to be a Santa. He finally decided on the man who works at the bagel shop by our house. He decided he would buy him a back massager since he was always standing up waiting on everyone. He wrapped up the present and wrote from Santa on the card and left it in the back corner so when he was cleaning up he would find the present. And for the past three years he has given thoughtful gifts to people he notices go the extra mile for him all year, spreading a little magic and surprise.
This year my youngest found out about Santa. I told him the same thing but he has been a bit more skeptical. He said "Mommy I don't think everyone does this Santa thing like you do. It sounds made up." To which I replied "I don't think everyone does either but I think they should because bringing a little joy into someones life who does little things for you all year is what Xmas is truly about."
He chose the lady who makes him tofu bowls and always asks him what he is learning in school and speaks spanish to him. He got her a gift set from Lush because she told him she liked the smell of roses one time. This is the first year that I get to be a Santa for someone other than my kids. He and I are going out tonight to help each other be Santa, he is going to deliver my gift and I am going to deliver his, so our presence won't raise any suspicion.
He is still pretty doubtful though and his friends at school have told him they don't have to do anything like this so he is reserving judgement on this "tradition" until we complete our mission. I have faith he will appreciate it after the excitement of delivery.
I think spreading joy into people's lives should be the part of xmas everyone is the most excited about. I wish more people were Santa's. Think about how much joy it brought you as a kid and think about passing a little of that on to someone who has probably not had that sort of magic in years. Think about how much joy it will bring to know someone out there notices them and thought about what would make them happy.
So my Xmas wish is... that more people choose to be Santa's.
xoxo
