I believe in love, kindness and compassion. I was lucky enough to grow up in a household, where I was taught that the greatest feeling in the world, is making someone's day. Whether it is by simply being friendly to some of the many people that cross your path everyday, or by doing something unexpected for someone. Knowing that you have made someone happy, makes you happy and the joy of giving can be addictive.
Think about how you feel when a stranger smiles at you when you walk down the street, when someone you have never met, pays you a sincere compliment out of the blue. When a person does something for you, big or small, it makes you feel good and it might even make your day, but I can guarantee that it makes that person feel even better. I know this, because I am one of those people that are absolutely addicted to that feeling. Even when I am feeling down, doing something for someone can make me feel better.
I am a self employed unknown artist and therefore not rich by any means, but an act of kindness does not necessarily require money. It can be as simple as helping an old person that is hobbling down the supermarket isle, or asking the cashier how her day is going with a smile on your face, or leaving a thank you card with your trash for the rubbish men, or feeding the birds your old bread, or giving a stray dog some water. I always try to be friendly and helpful to the people I encounter on a daily basis, because I never know who might really need a bit of positive energy in their lives. When I do earn some money on occasion, I love to share it with those around me. I do not believe in hoarding money, so when I have it, I share it, by paying for the gas of the guy next to me at the fuel station, or buying a bag of groceries and handing it to someone that looks like they might appreciate it. Living in a developing country, there are never a shortage of people in need of some kindness. I make sure to always keep a blanket, some spare jackets, an old handbag with some toiletries ect... in my car, so that I always have something to give someone in need.
No matter how big or small the kindness is, no matter if a person knows where the kindness is coming from or not, it will always bring you the greatest joy knowing that you have done something for someone. Try it and see if you enjoy that feeling as much as I do. Maybe you become addicted too.
