I have a knack for winning things. I win raffles, radio contests, online sweepstakes. Never anything signficiant, really, like vacations or cash of any sort (which would be nice). But since I was about 13, I've just...won stuff. Especially via radio - there was one point in high school when I literally won something every week, mostly tickets to local shows. I don't sleep very much at all and never have, so in high school when I would be up at 2 or 3am studying, I would keep the radio on and just call in every time the DJ announced that there was a contest. At that time, no one was paying much attention, so it was just a matter of pretty much calling up and winning. I remember being caller 1, 5, 8, and 12 (the winner) on one particular night. And somehow, in raffles, my name has some sort of magnetized attraction that brings me the grand prize. I don't enter contests nearly as much as I used to, but the last three times I have, I've won. Today I won tickets to go see the Get Up Kids tomorrow night, which is pretty cool. I don't know why this particular area of life brings me so much luck, but it's kind of fun.

I also realized the other day that I have gotten every single job I have ever interviewed for. This latest job search for the summer may change that, but the one interview I've had, I'm in the final running for.and feel pretty confident about. Even after graduating from college and fruitlessly job searching for 6 weeks, the first interview I actually landed, I nailed and was hired on the spot. Same thing with every nanny position I've had, every internship, every inconsequential waitressing spot or retail position. I'm really REALLY hoping that the interview I had this week for a research position for a very distinguished and fascinating professor works out. He specializes in environmental law, which, though not an area that I am particularly interested in for practice, is what I wrote my entire undergraduate thesis on. He wanted to see a sample of it after the interview, so I had to dig up a copy of it (I've moved three times since graduating two years ago, yet somehow, a copy of it has travelled with me). But I didn't have a copy on my computer, so I had to re-type 10 pages. In my mind, it had become this somewhat inconsequential paper that I wasn't particularly proud of, but rereading it (and re-typing it) made me remember how much work and time I put into it and how, in actuality, it's actually pretty damn good. Brownfield redevelopment in NY and NJ from a legislative perspective - never thought it was going to surface again, but hopefully word will come tomorrow or early next week as to whether it helped me land the job...

I have always disliked having to retype papers that were lost on different computers.
