Respect....something that is definitely learned with age. Leaving space for others, leaving space for yourself. It is simple but not so much. When I need to push back against somebodies wishes, the reaction I receive is what I take as their realm of respect. I have seen a lot, done a lot, matured a lot. Respect is what can carry you through hard times. You can beg with respect and dignity for yourself and others. It all comes back to simple interaction. Don’t take space that is not yours, in all metaphorical and literal terms.
When I see people giving their time and space for others less fortunate, I see respect. Elders, children, animals, nature. These are all things we should step aside for(unless you’re an asshole!) Then we can come to our peers and colleagues, and their spaces. Respect is something that is not pushed whatsoever. In fact, pushing another is the opposite of how I view respect.
Does anyone feel as if there are things we should not respect? I don’t respect those who don’t reciprocate. I always give the benefit of the doubt, of course. A defining act of character, it is easy to judge someone based on the way they treat others.
