Antique furniture can be VERY expensive. It depends who's putting the price tag on it...the whole "another man's trash..." cliche is true.
I was finding large 1930's furniture at a little run down junk store for 20-40$$.
But I was at another place today that had similiar items for 100-600$$!
Basically, shop around. I'll bet San francisco has some kick-ass antique places. Or, if CA's anything like Ohio, try outskirts of town or more rural areas. They seem not to value their antiques as much for some reason.
