The weekend is coming to a close as the curtain of rain shuts across the stage of my 28th year.
So I thought back and wondered how the year was. I came up with "hellasweet"
Now back to the weekend.
Friday, I got home around 11am from SYH653's, just in time to run a few errands, and pick my sister up to go to the art show. I only saw one booth that held my interest. Then I got home, after dropping my sister off and found out of town relatives there. I said hello, hopped into Dad's truck and headed for the drag strip.
Now, I get to the track, get teched, and head up for my first run in 4 weeks.
Yeah I know, 4 weeks. Anyway, I didn't get traction. I then made two more runs, and there was no traction to be found on that track. So on the fourth and final run for the evening, I had quite a good time with Lucifer. Well, it is what i call a good time, but most call it "totally fucking insane". I pull around the corner, and slowly move forward into the burnbox. I watched for the guy to give me the signal to smoke the tires, and on the signal, I did just that. I drove it out, stopped, and put Lucifer into 1st. I then inch forward until both bulbs were lit, the tree came down, I hit the throttle, and Lucifer shot to the left (where the wall is...missed it!
), I corrected him and shifted, and the rest of the run was somewhat straight. I let off and found out that "well shit, he just doesn't want to stop". Lucifer was squirrelly has hell, and unfortunately his ass end wanted to jump around. Now let me see here, we are going 125mph with about 1/2 mile shut down, but I can't get him to stop because he is bucking around on me. So I did what any good racer would do, I shut one eye, prayed to whom ever would listen, and with the eye that was open watched the sand trap get closer. Good news! Some one or thing was listening and I got him stopped in time to take the turn off semi safely. Well, with a lot of bouncing anyway. Whew! I loved every damn second of it. I was going to make another run, but by that time it was after 11pm and the air was getting moist as was the track surface. So I put him to bed and went to sleep.
Saturday, there still was no traction to be found.
I don't get it, but what the hell. I made my 3 time trials, and was completely confused on my dial-in (the number that a bracket racer puts on their window, that says how fast they are going to run. That way if a slower or faster car comes up against them, they will either get the head start or have to wait. In theory if both cars get the same reaction time and hit their dial-ins at the end they should be even at the end), so I guess, and win round one, then round two, and round three. Then came round number four, and I had to go on the trailer, but that is okay, because the race was sooooo fucking awesome. I had dialed in a 10.83 and ran a 10.838, he dialed in a 12.14 and ran a 12.146, we both had the same reaction times. It was a blast! As we crossed the line, we were looking at each other, but he got the win light. Yes, yes, yes he beat me by .002 seconds. That is common in drag racing, and that is another reason why I love that sport!
Today I went to the air show, but the ceiling was too low for some of the planes to go up and do things. I still had fun though.
Tomorrow is my birthday, and I am going to just chill. Most likely take my 'Cuda out for a nice drive at some point.
