What a day!
Tonight I "volunteered" at the local drag strip. This was an adventure. I arrived and the Christmas tree (the light tree at the starting line of a drag strip) would not work, after an hour or tracing and splicinng wires, it started to work. Then the timing lights at the top end (finish line) stopped working so, we were not getting any E.T. (elapsed time) or mph. So Bill went down and looked and looked and looked at the sensors. Finally we decided to call the drivers up to the starting line and tell them that they can either run as it is, or they can get a rain check which is good on another Wednesday test and tune. Most of them stayed, because the RT (reaction time-how fast it takes you to react and leave the whole(starting line)) and the 60' mark were working. Which is what I normally look at when testing, to make sure that my suspension is set up right and still holding. Anyway back to my story. Since Bill is the starter and can't fix things, while running the starting line, I was the starter. That is soooooo fun. You stand right next to the cars as they launch, are in charge of keeping the launch pad clean dry and sticky. On top of all that, you have to make sure that as each car pulls up that they have all of their windows up, doors closed and not leaking anything. So all went well, for a little bit, until someone decided to puke oil. I shut the right lane down and cleaned for a long time. Synthetic oil, just doesn't break down that easy, which makes clean up time about three times as long. When all was cleaned up,I played starter for a little bit longer, before I was paged back up to the tower to run the computer, still fun but not as much as the starter. The tower is not close enought to the cars, but I deal with it, because I can see all the times and see how people RT's are. So in the end I had a great day at the track.
I got home 13 hours after I left, to some cold pizza and iced tea. Not exactly what I wanted, but at least I had something to eat.
Yesterday mini golf with MIKAEL was great fun. Of course I kicked his ass!
