I would like to dedicate this entry to my editor SYH653. Thanks for the help.
I have worked at my current place of employment for 5 years now, and I have always recorded the bodice rippers, because according to the boss man "Girls should be on girl books, and boys should be on boy books." That is just a load of shit, but I have just dealt with it and have learned many terms for the human anatomy. Well, today for some reason the boss has changed his mind and assigned me to a real doozy.
This book is written by a minister, who wrote it for his male audience. He is trying to teach them that it is okay to show emotions. Fine so far. He preaches about nurturing children, spouses and being friends with other men. Also good qualities in a man.
He claims that not only does the black man not take responsiblities for their children, but that the lack of fathering comes from slavery. Because the white man would sell the children before the fathers were able to be a role model, and nurture them. He then went on to say that the reason so many black males were in prison was for the same reason, because they had no father figure in their lives. I disagree. I have numerous black friends whose fathers were not only there for their kids, but are caring, loving parents themselves. How do they fit into this slavery theory of this minister? Gross generalizations of this sort make me sick.
Next he went into saying that the man doesn't have more power over the woman in a relationship, but that they are equal, just to say in the next sentence that it is the man's job to delegate chores. Hmmmmm? Isn't that a little bit contradicting?
This author is nuts, but it gets better. He said that a man's wife should NOT be his best friend, because he needs someone that is more like him to be friends with. Someone that he can call up at 3am to tell him something is bothering him, but he doesn't know what. Uh...if someone called me at that time to tell me that...I would hang up on their ass.
I don't know if the boss was trying to teach me a lesson about me wanting a "guys" book, or what, but I will continue to request books that are not romance.
On a good note, tomorrow after work MIKAEL and I are going to play mini golf. I can't wait, it is 2buck Tuesday!
