Hey ho, hey ho, it's off to the lake I go.
Trying not to get too excited about NYE, because as I have discovered in the past, if you build something up too much, it often leads to dissapointment...

I always thought that I would be working in the music industry for the rest of my life. Well, at least until my late 30's, early 40's. But what with changes in technology and the almagamation or pending almalgamation of a few of the biggest entertainment conglomerates in the world and the dumbing down of people and the whole pretentiousness of the music biz today, I am becoming more disheartened by the moment.
I'm beginning to wonder if maybe my true calling lies in a totally unrelated field. I have been thinking a lot about it over the last couple of months - where do I want to go? What do I want to do? Who do I want to be - you know how it is. Retail has a knack of chewing up your dreams and spitting them back at you in a messy little blob of, well, spit. I'm getting pretty fed up with it. Although I have an immense passion for music, I hate myself for being a retail whore, and as stated above, I am becoming disillusioned with the whole scene. I reckon about another 5 months or so and I'm out. Persuing a career change in... interior decorating. It is something I been interested in ever since I can remember, and I've always wanted to take my interest further, although I didn't think it was going to be until a later stage in my life, and for nothing more than personal pleasure.
How awesome would it be if I owned my own interior decorating business? I realise there is going to be a lot of hard work ahead of me if I do choose to take this path, but I think I have the desire and personal attributes to succeed (welcome to pep talk 101-today we willl be telling ourselves how much we rock!).
biggrin
Maybe I'm like 2 years behind the times, but a while ago my store got 5 copies of a CD called 'If It Was You', by a spunky little duo called Tegan and Sara. Pardon my naivety, but I had never heard of them before, although I was immediately seduced by the two hot girls on the cover, who I assumed correctly as being T&S. I loved it from the moment I heard it. Their music is hard to describe, but I'm going to be a wanker and try to anyway - I'd call it a folk/pop/punk/country/rock fusion. So yeah, I've been listening to 'IIWY' on high rotation for quite a few months now, falling more in love with it by the day. I was on-line last night and I decide that since I still know nothing about these girls, that I should try and suss out what they're all about...and see what other whack genre descriptions people have come up with to catergorise their music. Not that music has to be or even should be catergorised, but sometimes it is helpful.
Lo and behold, this was my undoing, as I have now discovered that they are 22 year old identical twin lesbians. Sooo in love it's not funny. love
Oh, and their music is described as 'rawk' - raw rock. It's a new sub-genre, like post-hardcore or pre-emo. wink

i love the new genres, its a pisser how they try to re-identify something that has been done hundreds of thousands of times before by calling it a new name.. my favourite is when some commercial station discovers a new, fresh rock band and flog them to death while giving away "ice cold cans of coke", meanwhile jjj has been playing them for 6-12 months and is taking it off of rotation.. can anyone spell disenfranchised.. shit can i spell it..

So true...
i remember when I heard 'Push' by Matchbox 20 being played on the J's years ago, then commercial radio picked it up and it was immediately dropped. Ha ha, I think playing it in the first place was a bit of a mistake on JJJ's behalf-could you get more mainstream than MB20?
As for what I do in the music industry, for the past 3 years I've been managing a record store, but I have also been involved in numerous other aspects including education and training, promotions, managing, as well as having been in a band myself.
