Oh my God, dudes!
Hurricane Charley kicked Orlando's ass!
Our neighborhood was one of the worst hit, but fortunately my house is ok. 2 big trees fell AWAY from it.
So, I was standing outside during 105 mph wind gusts because I am hardcore and/or stupid. I just had to see the fierce beauty of the storm. By the time it was roaring down my street, it was still a Catagory 2 hurricane. I've lived in Florida almost all of my 30 years, and I've NEVER seen any shit like this. The huge oak trees across the street twisted violently, and I heard the sickening crack as one slowly gave way to the wind and fell. There was sort of a greenish lightening all around illuminating everything. Rain absolutely poured, and I could almost lean into the wind and still be standing. I heard the 'freight train' noise I've always known indicates a tornado. I'm sure there were several around me. My husband kept yelling at me to get inside, and eventually I did once it sounded like our heavy front door was about to be ripped off the hinges.
The worst of it lasted maybe 20 minutes. We went out and surveyed the damage once things calmed down. I'm glad I didn't step on any downed power lines, because everything was a mess and we were in total darkness.
Our power is still out, so I'm updating from Stardust in Orlando. This is our 4th day without power or a home phone, and it's starting to feel like Survivor. We still aren't sure when our neighborhood will regain power, so with limited gas we drive to the mall or Publix or here, just happy to be in air conditioning. I don't think I'll ever take modern conveniences for granted again....especially when I can't even make my beloved coffee.
I'll check back in when I can. Until then I'll be taking cold showers (which can feel pretty damn good after sweating all day), eating bar b q courtesy of the husband, and wtching the Olympics on our little b&w TV plugged into the cigarette lighter of the car. It's like camping from what they tell me.
Love y'all. Thanks for checking on me. miss lady

Hi babies. Updating from Stardust again. It's Thursday, and tomorrow will make it a full week without power. It's 93F outside, and every asshole around my house seems to have a loud, environment-wrecking generator cranking away all night making it pretty hard to sleep. Other than that, it's pretty fun. Lots of drinking beer, sweating, and playing with candles since I'm bored out of my fucking mind. I just want everything back to normal, which will happen as soon as someone picks up the power and phone lines laying in my backyard. I'm trying to be patient, since I know people are coming from out of state to help us out with restoring power. Maybe I'll go to my parents' today to just...chill.
