Hope everyone had a nice 4th of July. We made alot of BBQ, sorry vegetarians. Hey, I did have a Gardenburger....and some yummy chicken kabobs. Beer, alot of crazy "illegal" fireworks (as purchased by me, because I'm a cool wife like that) and rounding out the evening with Queer As Folk pretty much made it the perfect day.
I'll try to upload pics later.
Saw
Fahrenheit 9/11 over the weekend. It was great. Michael Moore was not that confrontational towards anyone in this film (like with Charlton Heston in Bowling For Columbine) but I loved that he politely asked senators with children if they would sign them up to go support the war in Iraq. Those who would even talk to him looked at him like he was crazy. One senator has a son serving over there, that's it. The profile of a woman, Lila Lipscomb, from Moore's hometown of Flint, Michigan was heartbreaking: signing up for the military is what she has encouraged her children to do to break the cycle of poverty and have experiences she could never provide, and it resulted in her son dying in vain. His last letter to her expressed that he didn't know what he was doing in Iraq, and he no longer supported Bush.
We're friends with a very liberal couple who have decided not to celebrate Independence Day due to our president and the war he's gotten us in. They don't want their children to see fireworks. I know why they're doing this, but I don't agree with it. I still love this country, and I think of my grandfather flying combat to protect it when he was 22...an age when most people now have the luxury to whine that they don't know what to do with their lives. And don't do much.
So, everyone please try to see Fahrenheit, and make up your own mind about it. Now I'm ready to see the new Will Farrell movie for some comic relief.
One of my best friends is moving into my neighborhood in a few days, and I'm really excited. Keri's my bud, a great girl because she doesn't get overly emotional about...well...anything. That's not to say she's not a "deep" person, but she is just more logical than emotional. Kinda balances me out. We were roommates a long time ago, and would just crack each other up all the time doing
Silence of the Lambs quotes, and shooing boys away who lived in the complex and didn't realize how much older we were. She's a good NY girl: loyal friend who can kick some ass if needed.
You all have a lovely day. Love, miss lady
