I'm back and better than ev-ah from NYC. My friend and I had a blast running around the city in the snow and ice, and hanging on to her cute model-boy friend for warmth. We stayed in a youth hostel w/ 2 toilets and 2 showers for a whole row of rooms, and our room was the size of a closet. All this luxury for $90/night, which I guess is supposed to be cheap by New York standards! It didn't matter because we were either shopping, eating, or in a club til 4 am, so the room wasn't a problem until I had to pee in the middle of the night and wait for an old lady to get out of there (yes, I thought 'youth hostel' implied younger folks, too). I had white pizza at at least once a day, gigantic Asahi beer out of a can, and the best Indian food I've ever had in my life. We were in mid-town most of the time, close to some of my favorite places in the East Village and Chelsea. We went to Ground Zero because I hadn't seen it since the WTC was still there, and w/ one look it made this usually composed girl cry. I saw some cute little plays put on by an independent theater group, and Outback sponsored it so we got a free dinner and all the wine we could drink out of the deal. Just what you want to hear after smoking a couple of bowls---free dinner! The cold wasn't so bad-- I was quite toasty in my skirt, tights, and legwarmers--but when we walked outside the fabulous gay club we were at til late late late so my friends could smoke and it was 9 degrees, that was kind of pushing it. I got back inside pronto to resume dancing on a platform w/ some dude in his tighty-whiteys. Good thing Medway is an easy-going husband about this sort of thing!
Sigh. I'm out $800 that I somehow blew through in 4 days, and I think my liver hurts, but damn the trip was worth it! It's good to be back home though to the man and the kitties.
