Im Not Musical
Dont get me wrong - I love music. I very much appreciate people who are musical. I wish more than anything else in the world that I could sing I would love to be able to carry a tune (this doesnt stop me from singing loudly in my car).
I first discovered my lack of musical talent in grade five.
Our class was taken once a week to the high school to learn how to play musical instruments. We were grouped with a high school student who could play the instrument to teach us. I chose the flute. I think because it was dainty and girly and I really wanted to be dainty and girly (still do!).
The plan was that we would all learn to play Ode to Joy and then play it in the high school recital when all of our parents were there too.
We had ten sessions - it took me seven to even get a darn sound out of that flute. Do you know how hard it is to play a flute!!! As a result I only learned the first two bars of Ode to Joy. My high school instructor gave me the advice to just fake it after that.
I think a lot of kids in my class got that advice we were all onstage we started playing and the first few lines sounded very good and then it went down hill from there.
Luckily we were all very cute and still got a standing ovation.
