today has been a shitty, shitty day.
i took the dogface killah to the vet this morning expecting a set of shots, a quick look under the hood, some heartworm meds and some info about what to expect now that we're moving to the south. the visit started well enough. she's healthy, has gained a little weight, got her shots, heartworm meds and i paid my bill...
then it all pretty much went to shit. right after i paid my bill i reached down to grab her leash and she vomitted all over me. i consider my dog my child. so while i wasn't exactly thrilled she threw up on me, kids sometimes do that so i could handle it. i was a little concerned, but figured it would pass. then she immediately laid down in the middle of the waiting room. (anyone who's ever met my dog knows that isn't her personality.) so i had the vet check her out again. it wasn't until he brought the older vet into also look at her that i started to get worried. then he said i'm a little worried about her breathing and brought her into the back exam room...
then i started to get more worried. some time passed and then they called me back to the room. they had shot her up with benedryl and her eyes were darting back and forth and she looked really scared... ok, now i'm really worried. (especially since the vet tech said she was hallucinating.) they said she was having an allergic reaction, but would be ok. they just wanted to observe her for an hour to make sure everything was ok. so i went home to clean-up, ran an errand and came back an hour later. i could hear her barking as soon as i walked in and thought "that's my girl!" i had a quick discussion with the vet about how this meant stella can never have anything other than rabbies vaccinations ever again because those are required by law, but even those would require half a days stay at the vet to make sure she was ok. so i start heading back home and notice her eyes and jowls are swelling. now i'm really, really worried. knowing that this was again an allergic reaction i turned right around and headed straight back to the vet where they gave her more benedryl and she spent another 4 hours. i got my girl home and she's thrown up a couple times, but appears to be ok. but what a sorry sight!
just what i needed a week and a half before i move across the country and change my entire life.

Oooh, puppy allergies. My sister lost a dog that way a few years ago. Scary as hell. Glad to hear the Killah made it through mostly alright.
