Everynow and again I seem to get a massive hate for George Lucas and his piss poor character developments! Anyone else?
What brought this on? Searching through Youtube and decided to watch the jedi fight at the end of Phantom Menace (yep, the only good bit). You watch it and can't help but feel that if Darth Maul was given more screen time he would be an epic bad guy, or even a back story of some sort.
Lucas seems to have this fear of developing evil characters. It's like he wants everything sweet and nice. Darth Maul for starters is wasted. Boba Fett get's killed of in Return of the Jedi in the most ludicrus way...plus he dies screaming! Not only does he treat Fett poorly in Jedi he goes on to destroy his back story in Attack of the Clones by making him a whiny little kid (now where have we seen that one before). I do believe Fett was killed off because he got such a massive following after Empire, there was a chance a bit part player would overshadow some major characters in Jedi! The next Sith is Count Dooku who is almost laughable. Let's not make it too scary for the little kids Mr.Lucas. It's a shame it's taken authors and computer game designers to develop these characters further.
And while we're on character development, how about the destruction of Obi-wan over the prequels. Hardly comes across as the great Jedi he's built up to be in the originals.
I could go on...and on...
And yet despite all these problems with Mr.Lucas I still buy and watch the bloody things
