So I flew into LAX Sunday morning. Left Minneapolis and it was 32 deg F got into LAX and it was 72 Deg F. Spent a big part of Sunday watching a playing with my friends 11 week old baby boy. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday was mostly spent packing the truck. We figured out the truck needed to be packed tight to fit everything. In the end we had about a 4x4x4 spot of unused space. My friends weren't completely packed. I think it was because all of the emotional feelings about leaving LA after 6 years of living there. It all worked out. Wednesday morning the baby and my friends wife were dropped off at LAX. Afterward we finished packing the truck and went to pick up the car tow. So as we are putting the CRV truck on the towing trailing the ramp falls off with the back tire hanging in the air. The people at the rental place run and grab a spare tire and setting so we can drive up it with the hanging tire. I had to help strap the CRV down cause the rental people were mostly clueless. It worked, but it sure didn't install any confidence that the rental people knew what they were doing. Doesn't help that we were doing all of this in a busy LA side street. How can you have a truck rental place with no parking lot? Only in LA! We were off on the road 2:00 PM Wednesday. Driving across LA hitting early rush hour. Traffic sucks in LA! Not sure how people can do it everyday? Sure you can sit in traffic in the warm 75 deg smog filled air with your windows open. : ) I do like being in places where palm trees can grow.
We decided to take a southern route instead of hitting the Denver area. Thought was we would avoid a possibility of driving off a snowy mountain pass. So I have now driven thru California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, and finally Minnesota. No mishaps. Unloaded the truck yesterday day and evening. I have gotting better at backing a big truck with trailer. There was a couple tight difficult spots where I had to do some difficult backing up. Because I own a small boat and trailer I was elected these jobs. Kind of fun... A couple times I wondered if what we were thinking was even possible.
All I can say now is that my own bed is so awesome! So today I think I will do some house cleaning. Maybe watch a bit of the Vikes? Sounds like we have a cold front coming in so maybe I should get some yard work out of the way. I do like Minnesota! I think it is more clean and has less run down hick towns then all of the States we drove through.
Oh yeah - I wanted to try an In and Out Burger so we did on Wednesday. It was okay, but I don't understand the craze. I think we both may have gotten a slight case of food poisoning.
