So a friend was fired from his job today. He was completely shocked. A woman he works with filed a sexual harrassment complaint against him. His work has a no tolerance policy. They asked if he said it and he said yes and they said good bye. Now I completely believe there are situations when a person should go to HR directly without talking to the person they have a problem with. I think in this situation everyone would have been better served if she had told him her disapointment and told him she only had interest in him as a coworker. Here is what happened. Thursday evening he went to his first after work Happy Hour party with his coworkers of almost 2 years. He doesn't drink. A coworker woman who he thought he was friends with went outside to have a smoke with him. She asked to try his cigar. She coughed big time afterward and very wrongly he said you p*ssy. That was that. Now I think there is some history here also. I know my friend said he liked her and he had been doing what he thought was mutual flirting with her. All while she was telling him how bad her relationship was with her husband. I told him he was asking for trouble. Husbands can get insanely jealous and she is up to no good if she is flirting so much with you while she is married. Well that Thursday night she told him she moved back in with her parents also. Okay - I believe my friend completely misread what was going on with this woman? But I think all she needed to do is tell him to stop and that she wasn't interested and he would have stopped. I think she may have decided she didn't like him anymore and got him fired? Now because he was fired his work is saying he doesn't qualify for unemployment. He has never been fired before and has never had a sexaul harrassment complaint against him in some twenty years of working or in his life in general. He is devastated. I do wonder if she didn't know what would happen when she filed her complaint?
