Sorry (to my whole of 8 followers lol) if I haven't been on in a while!
and heres a lil blog as to why
Over the next coming weeks I will be in a world of hurt. But a good hurt, a fine line between pleasure and pain (if you do it once, you can do it again).
I will be performing in the Perth Fringe Festival as a comedian in a few days time. For those who don't know what a Fringe Festival is, its basically an Arts festival that goes for about a month, showcasing local theatre/comedy/burlesque/any form of art you can think of and including international acts. It's a great scene for us little guys to get into and network a bit, shake a few hands, meet faces.
So thats happening on thursday. I have to road trip with 3 others 6 hours to get to the city to perform that night, something now many people will do for a 5 minute unpaid slot where your face will be lost in the crowd. BUT i love it. And will always love performing and making people laugh.
The world NEEDS laughter, if things are too stern-faced, then it all goes sour and things just don't get on.
THEN… two days after i perform at Fringe (the saturday), I have a private catering gig. So the morning after the show I and catching a plane back home to start prepping for this dinner. Its only 15 people, which is not a lot of people. But its just me doing the gig and its a 3 course dinner….at their house.
And at the moment I'm fighting with the client. Well not really fighting, but she has no idea what she wants and its really frustrating when your trying to organise supplies for the event.
I received an email today saying that she didn't need my dessert course anymore. Obviously she was outsourcing a baker for a nice cake. Thats fine, if you can get a better product, do it. So I replied saying that if she is getting a cake made, that I won't worry about making my dessert (not going to do the effort for nothing) and that I would re-cost the event for her. Her final reply was, "No don't change the price, will keep the dessert on the menu"…..
Now after all that…why tell in the first place that you didn't want it!
END RANT
because I love cooking, it comes with making people happy. To see a group of people enjoying each others company over a table of food, there really is nothing better for me.
THEN…..The week after I am holding auditions for a play I am directing at my local theatre troupe. My "Directorial Debut" as it were haha. Its a play called 'Sleuth' written by Anthony Shaffer. You may have heard of it, there have been two movies done. One in the 70's with Laurence Olivier and Michael Caine and then again in 2007 with Jude Law and Michael Caine. Its a fantastically written play, great language and sub text. and its only two actors for a full length play. A fantastic achievement if you can pull it off. WHICH I HOPE TO DO lol
Holding auditions, and then casting and then the 6 week process of rehearsal and production, to Curtain Open starting weekend of April.
BUT…..In between rehearsals, I have another Stand-up Comedy gig locally, its one of only TWO regional lounges in Western Australia, so its kind of a big deal. Regardless if we are shit or not haha.
However it is the same weekend as Valentines day OR Singles Awarness Day as I like to call it. Oddly enough I have never had a girlfriend over this holiday….and thats by no choosing of my own. I would like nothing more than a romantic day with my lady and whisper sweet nothings. But i feel that is another blog all together lol.
Anyway, so one of the shows we are doing, (we do two nights) is on valentines day, so we are doing a special competition for two couples to win a table ON STAGE with the comedians and they get food and looked after through out the show….Which i am of course cooking for. i'll do my little piece, then disappear and prepare their dinner for night of nights.
Well, if you've read this far, well done. Well done indeed good Sir/Ma'am.
never use 'Madam', its the term for the boss lady at a brothel. Well thats what it is in Australia anyway …
Thank you for reading my slight rant to then end of the week and heres to a stressful next 2 months!
AND HAPPY AUSTRALIA DAY!!
