Before I moved to Buenos Aires I used to be in touch pretty regularly with quite a few people here that I had met through SG. It wasn't always easy to communicate with my poor Spanish skills and sometimes their lack of English, but we made do.
One person in particular was a former model. She and I wrote back and forth regarding music and a whole bunch of other things. Before I moved she left SG and we lost touch. In the four years I've been here I have never had the chance to meet her and I had always hoped that I might bump into her or that she was a friend of a friend or something like that.
Well it turns out she is. I saw her name on Facebook yesterday, checked the profile, and sure enough it was her. I clicked "Follow" so that I could get in touch with her during the week and say hello. I felt that adding her as a friend without an email might come across as strange.
I went to send her a quick message today and the link doesn't work. I'm assuming that I was blocked. I don't know if FB advises you when someone follows you or not, but if they do she either didn't remember me and didn't want to be followed by a stranger, or remembered me and maybe doesn't want any connection to SG. I can't imagine that she was creeped out in any way. As best I recall we always got on well. We were friends on Myspace when that page existed and then we simply lost touch.
I'm sort of bummed, because it was exciting to have found her after what has to be at least 6 years now.
As it turns out I wasn't blocked at all, just some weird FB glitch that cleared itself up a day later. I sent her a message and she added me as a friend the next day. We didn't talk, but we liked and commented on each others posts and things like that. Today I got a nice message from her. I wrote back just now, so this could be the start of a proper face to face friendship.
I have to say that when we first wrote she was always super nice and made a huge effort to keep in contact considering I didn't speak Spanish at all and her English wasn't very good.
BTW the model I'm talking about is Muffin. I wasn't deliberately keeping that a secret or anything. Just never got around to mentioning who it was in the last blog.
Even though this site is mainly dead I like being a member for the memories of the times when things were super active. We had events nearly every weekend and I had the chance to meet wonderful people from all over the world. It's a shame some of you will never have those same experiences, though I'm trying to figure out a way to put together some things here in Buenos Aires.
