So I woke up after a night of drinking on a totally empty stomach around 2:30 this afternoon. Took a shower. Feel like the inside of a garbage truck on a hot summer day. Now I'm like "now what?"

Iowa City is the best place to be, I think. It is a University town, but it's got more diversity to it then any other place in Iowa that I can think of. I haven't seen any of those stickers yet, but there's plenty of Calvins pissing on Ford, Chevy, Dodge, etc.. Yes, some of the small towns can be narrow minded, but they'll just look at you weird. Still, they're usually pretty friendly. The only thing to do in a small town though, is go to the local highschool sporting event, or drink at the local watering hole.
I don't know what Georgia is like, but I'm not much for the South anyways. Too damn hot and muggy.

If you're living in the styx, you're bound to run into the less-than-kind and/or narrow-minded. thankfully, for you, iowa city is one of the most diverse and open-minded communities in the state. (that's not to say every place doesn't have its share of assholes... but they're avoidable in iowa city). it's a college-town, kurt vonnegut lives there, tons of young people, friendly folks. i would choose iowa city over coralville -- closer to the stuff you'll want to be doing. it is a small town -- but a very good small town. i say go for it. what the hell, right? i've often thought it would be nice to live there for a few years.
i'll be visiting dubuque from 8/3-8/8 and then i'm back to LA. i am planning on moving back to iowa, however and hope to be there in december (or november if all goes really well). i think i'll be spending a year/year and a half in iowa whilst i prepare for grad school and possible write a book.
