HELP!!!
I have workout questions
SPOILERS! (Click to view)
I need to read up on this more-but I'm trying to get opinions from you guys.
Do you prefer to do strength training before or after running?
Is one way better than the other?
Is it better to divide strength training/running days or do it on the same days?
Is it best to eat before or after working out?
I've been getting up in the mornings-going for my run-then doing my strength training immediately after. I'm exhausted! I'm sure it has a lot to do with the fact that I haven't really exercised at all in a really long time. It may also have to do with my eating habits as well-is it best to eat before or after a workout? I typically run first thing in the morning on an empty stomach (hasn't been bothering me-I feel fine during the workout). Then I'll eat breakfast-usually whole wheat toast, fruit, and water. I have a healthy light snack every few hours throughout the day and something healthy and filling for lunch and dinner. Is there anything I can do to keep myself more alert and awake throughout the day? I feel as if I will just fall asleep instantly if I close my eyes or lay my head down for a half second. Oh and I always get 7-9 hours of sleep each night. Help!!!
In addition to the above: I've gone down another jean size! Now size 6!!! I was in a 10 this time last year.

In regards to eating before or after the workout, do both! Before your workout you'll want some bread, cereal or oatmeal. The carbs help fuel your workout. Post workout you will want some egg whites or a protein shake. By feeding your body protein after your workout it helps to build your muscles.
As others have noted above, mixing in cardio with your strength training is very beneficial too. Do a set with weights, then 2 minutes on the eliptical, another set of weights, a set if sit-ups, and follow it by 5 minutes on the elliptical. By varying your workouts like this your body should respond quicker and you will notice results faster. Especially if you are taking in enough protein. God luck and congrats again!!
