Time for a new post about my weekend excursion with some good friends.
So Friday night I leave work early. We are supposed to meet up at a friends house in Midway City.
We all meet there pile all their camping gear into my car and we hit the road later than thought. Some people wanted to smoke before getting on the road. :p We managed to leave Southern California around 8 pm.
We drive straight through to Blythe. Which is a shit hole. Nothing exciting there at all. We than left Blythe heading towards Phoenix. We make it to Phoenix around 2 in the morning. Than change freeways to head north into Sedona. We make it to Sedona around 4 or 5 in the morning. I remember us setting up our tents and the sun started to come up. We camped in the canyon on the road that goes up to Flagstaff. Elevation where we camped was about 5800 feet. And there was still snow on the ground around our camp. So it was cold. And I dont do cold well. We sleep a couple of hours than wake up and make it to breakfast.
After breakfast we went to Airport Mesa for a hike. It was the longest hike of the weekend. About 8 miles.
The vortex there was supposed to be a masculine vortex. I dont really believe in that stuff so I was just there for the hike and the vacation. But the scenery was amazing.
That was our only hike of the day as it took up a good portion of the day. We decided we had to find a better way of combating the cold of the night before. Sleeping bags and tents weren't cutting it. We thought if we bought some pads to lay on the floor under us we would be better off. Because the rocks were so cold they were sucking any heat we had in our bodies out. So we decided to head into Flagstaff because they have a Wal-Mart. Spent time there buying beer. Hot dogs. And other things. Also bought some mats to lay on.
We decided to head back to camp to get an early start on Sunday. There we smoked, drank, had some shitty hot dogs. Had trouble keeping the fire going. Talked about all our business plans for the next year. Over all it was a good night but again cold. Got down to 27 degrees.
Sunday we wake up drive into town for breakfast at a bagel shop and try to plan out our day.
We decide we should be able to do the remainder of the vortex hikes because they are shorter. We end up going to the most amazing spot which was Bell Rock. Which is a climbers paradise. We climbed as high as we could without needed any special equipment. Took some pictures caught our breaths and then came down. That vortex was the enhancing vortex. Since we went to Masculine than Enhancing we all felt that it made us more masculine. Oh to know that you are in a vortex you are supposed to see twisted junipers. Some of which are a thousand years old. Amazing to see a tree all twisted up.
Next we went to the feminine vortex which was by the river where all the snow runoff happened. We decided that it would be fun to become polar bears and since we all were smelling quite fresh from not showering for a couple of days we decided to take a dip. And no one had swim trunks so boxers it was. And man was that water cold. I was totally thinking of going nude but people were walking around. And lets be honest no one wants to see that.
Next we went to the balance vortex which was another decent hike and a good spot to sit high and see the scenery. We had decided after that we were going to hit up the ghost town of Jerome at dusk and that the sun going down would be a good backdrop for the ghost town. We leave Sedona around 330 or 4 and head to Jerome. I thought the city was amazing. We didnt get to go into the old old part and the museum as they were closed. But to see these old buildings of this old mining town perched precariously on the side of the mountain was awesome to me. My friend was being kind of annoying about how he didnt consider it a ghost town. He kept going on and on about how people live there so its not really a ghost town. And blah blah blah.
We decided that since I was driving that we would have to stay a night in flagstaff after that and wake up early Monday morning and go see my old house that I used to live in that I dont remember. We got to see the old place. Looked really neat. Its actually outside of Flagstaff a couple of miles. I even talked to the new home owners as they were leaving. Telling them I didnt want to be creepy but if I could take a couple of pictures.
After that we decided that we were gonna go through Hoover Dam and Vegas on our way back. We check traffic through Hoover Dam and realized that the holiday traffic was really bad so we decided to take another way into Vegas. We end up going all the way down to Kingman. And then into Laughlin. And I was like this is the most round about fucking way to get into Vegas. We will be back tracking like 60 miles only to turn around come back this way. I was like lets do our gambling in Laughlin it will be fun. So we stop at Avi off the strip.
We all take 20 bucks out to play with. Game of choice was blackjack. I get blackjack my first turn and im up. And I end up losing the 20 bucks but I got to play for a good 45 minutes. And it was 5 dollar minimums. My friend Brandon ends up making 240 bucks at blackjack. Than leaves the table after I lose. He takes his money over to roulette and puts 100 bucks on 3's and 12's and doubles his hundred bucks. Than he loses all the way down to only being 120 bucks ahead and we leave. We stop in barstow on the way home for food. Hate barstow to. lol Than drive back to Midway City and make it there around 630 Monday night. I still have to unload everyone and make it home to San Clemente. So I dont get home until around 8.
That was my weekend. Loved every minute of it. We want to start a camping group that goes like once every couple of months. Cant wait. Also I think I talked myself into a steak off cooking contest with my friend. Wish me luck.
