Ingrown toe nails suck.
Work is craaaazy busy the past few weeks. The end of the year always brings a lot more projects to audit than any other time of year, and because we're closed from December 24th untill Januari 2nd, we have less time to do them. My boss is taking a few days off on top of that, so all projects with a deadline of Januari 1st have to be done December 19th at their latest so he can sign our audit statements before he leaves. So right now we're in a mad rush to get everything done. I can't complain too much though, it's not as bad as last year. Besides, I'll be having 11 days off (including weekends) at the end of the month, that's well worth the hard work right now.
I might not be able to get my mortgage passed before the end of the year, or more specifically the life insurance required for my mortgage. Because of my weight, they require me to get a physical before issueing my life insurance. I don't expect a lot of problems, I might be fat but I'm not badly out of shape or anything. But it will delay the whole process. So that sucks a little. They already accepted the mortgage itself, so that's not the problem. But the costs for refinancing are deductable on my income taxes, and if it doesn't get passed before Januari 1st, I'll have to wait a whole year before I can deduct it. We're talking about $ 5,000 here that I'm getting back from my income taxes, which I was planning on using for my house.
I'm thinking that maybe if I can't get it passed before the end of the year, I'm going to post-pone my remodelling plans for a year. Even with that 5k the budget would be kinda tight, I don't think I can finance the whole remodelling without that money.
On the bright side, post-poning for a year would allow me to go on vacation next summer, so maybe it's not such a bad idea.
Let's see, what else has been going on since my last blog? Oz seems to have found a new favourite spot, underneath the christmas tree. It's kinda cute. I'll see if I can take pictures tomorrow, it's too dark right now. I wanted to get him a little christmas hat and take some pictures, but they were soled out unfortunately.
He has taken an interest in the christmas ornament, but it's not as bad as I feared. So far he only broke one thing, the other things he knocked out were plastic instead of glass. On average he knocks out only 1 or 2 ornaments a day (well night, when I'm sleeping), and I put all the fragile and/or special ones up higher where he can't reach. So he can't do that much damage.
I've decided on most of the menu for Christmas. I'm going to start off with some simple soup, either vegetable or chicken (those are the only soups my brother'll eat). I'm not yet sure about what I'm serving next, probably stuffed peppers, or fresh pasta with a light sauce. I haven't decided yet. What do you think?
The main course is going to be stuffed turkey breast, and ham, with peas, green beans wrapped in prosciutto, green asparagus, mashed potatoes and oven-roasted steak fries as sides. For dessert I'm having ice cream, but I haven't decided yet what kind. I could make my own, or just get some different flavours of Ben & Jerry's. Can't go wrong with B&J, and it might even be better than home made ice cream. I love me some Chunky Munky, or New York Super Fudge Chunk. Mmmmmm.
What are your plans for Christmas and New Year's? Are you going to see family, friends, or maybe they're coming to you? Are you just going to enjoy having a few days off?
I might invite my cousins over for New Year's, light some fireworks. Last year I was in Paris for New Year's, where they didn't have fireworks. So I have to make up for it this year .
I'm going to try and catch up on people's blogs this weekend, I'm so behind on them.
