Let's see where do I start...
Job Situation
I'm still unemployed as of today...I'm able to collect unemployment benefits but I have not recieved a check yet, which is very frustrating. I remember when you used to be able to call in, file a claim over the phone, and then request your payments via mail...oh how things have changed!! Whoever the Rhode scholar was that thought it would be a great idea to make everything automated needs to be shot...repeatedly!!! It's going on week 4 and I haven't seen one red cent...bastards!!! My check is supposed to be cut tomorrow and mailed so hopefully I'll see something by Saturday, Monday at the latest. Best believe, when I do get the check, I'ma get me some spinners for the family ride...bitches!!!! I'm kidding folks!
There is a job prospect on the horizon, or should I say an interview prospect...the only thing is, the damn recruiter hasn't called me back yet. I've called like 3 times already but no dice. Recruiters are a double edged sword...you have to really be on your toes when working with them. My philosophy is to be very firm and assertive with them, let them know who's in charge but at the same time be flexible and open. We'll see, I'm going to call the guy again tomorrow, if I can't talk to him then I'll shoot him an email and if that doesn't work I'll just move on...keep on pushin!!!
I got a call today from my NEW service manager from the company that laid me off...check this out. The company has been on a mission to cross-train everyone in my division so that they can eventually phase it out, so I get a call from this guy asking if I've done my OJT (on the job training) for class that I took last year. I say no I haven't, he tells me that the company wants to send me to training at a site in Oregon and that they want me to fly out next Tuesday...ok I listen to the guy and I initially told him I'd do it seeing as though I'm umeployed at this moment. He explains some of the details...length of training, pay rate (it sux ass!!!), transportation options, so on and so on...the more and more I hear the more I don't want to do it. I've gotten used to being back at home with the fam, I've been working around the house getting things done, planning to start other projects around the house, really working on my photography business, job searching for stable positions, you know moving in a completely different direction and then these jokers up and call me...great! I get off the phone with him, explained to my wife the sitation at hand and began to mentally prepare myself to hit the road again...damn damn damn!!! I'm thinking to myself, should I really leave what I've started at home, my family, for a training opportunity for something I don't even plan on making a career out of, and on top of that, once I'm done with the training they can't even gurantee a position for me to start in immediately...I think not...fuck'em!!! So to make this long story short, I emailed the guy back respectfully declining the training opportunity...what happens next I don't know...and I really don't care either for that matter. Another deciding factor was, I wasn't willing to sacrifice my already small guaranteed unemployment benefits for a training opportunity that was gonna pay just the same BUT possibly ruin my chances of being able to continue collecting said benefits if they don't have a position for me to immediately start in...I have to look out for my family...it's not personal, it's business!
On a Personal Note
My photo skills are progressing quite nicely...I don't have an elaborate set up or anything so it's forced me to really work on my eye and to fully utilize the tools that I do have...so far so good. Myself and a fellow SG member are working on a little photo assignment, something that seems simple...shooting an egg...but really has the potential of being very complex and helpful at the same time...thanx sista!!!
Once my finances are back where they should be, I'll be upgrading to a digital SLR so that I can take the skills that I already have and push them to the next level...ie studio shoots, fine art, field assignments and events. My ultimate goal(s) is to do some work for National Geographic or another major publication, publish a book of images (secret, I can't say right now), and to have a line of fine art...pretty high goals but I think they're all attainable...shit 2 outta 3 ain't bad either!!!
So in the meantime, until I'm gainfully employed I'll be plugging away at putting together a stock image portfolio to be posted online and to work on the prelim stages of my photog biz...every bit of progress counts.
I'm out...holla at me!!!!
