We had a storm blow through town today. It came in really fast and unexpectedly and was anything but kind as it passed through. It wasn't a disaster type storm, but it was definitely one of those storms that let you know it was there for the short time it was. We were driving down the road and emergency vehicles were going in all directions. Lighting struck multiple homes and started 3 fires. There were several car accidents... I think one was fatal. It was like Nature came along and put a boot heel in our little ant pile and then passed on through without regard.
At least it left that summer rain smell in it's wake. Nothing like the smell of a cool rain passing through on a hot summer day. It leaves a musty earthy scent you don't get with the rainfall later in the year.

sad day, indeed. even sadder it's being used politically. the discussion on gun laws has been boiling under the surface for years now, so it makes sense there'd be a tipping point, but i hope to see the memories of the aurora victims honored by a new conversation on how we can improve our mental hygiene programs and not only stop more of these guys before they graduate to violent acts, but improve the lives of millions who are battling various mental illnesses.
