This is the April Fool's joke email that went out to my fan-email-gig-and-other-Mike-Doughty-news-email-list:
'The first 5,000 copies of HAUGHTY MELODIC in stores upon its May 3 release will include an exclusive bonus disc featuring Mike Doughty's solo acoustic performance of Judas Priest's classic album BRITISH STEEL in its entirety.
'While the move is seemingly a strange one for sensitive troubadour Doughty, he's proud to be paying tribute to his rock and roll forebears. "I really don't mean this ironically," said Doughty, earnestly. "'British Steel' is one of the great albums of the 80s -- I'd say 'Remain in Light' by the Talking Heads and 'It Takes a Nation of Millions' by Public Enemy would be tied for second place."
'Known for such timeless tracks as "Breaking the Law" (which Doughty performs falsetto) and "Living After Midnight," BRITISH STEEL was Judas Priest's 1980 career-defining classic. The original has sold over a million copies in the U.S. alone, and many more worldwide. Says Doughty, "I decided to package 'Haughty Melodic' with Priest's classic of yesteryear to create a sort of hybrid classic of the now. As, you know, I am all about the now."
'Doughty's rendition of BRITISH STEEL was produced by Dave Clark Five bassist Lenny Davidson.
'Keep an eye out for this special package, in stores May 3!'
