Well, work was rather odd this weekend. We had a fund raiser for an organization that I can't stand. What makes is worse is that most people would consider me a heartless bastard and a biggot for saying so.
The Center for the Disabled...
Now before you all read this and get angry at me for hating them, you must hear my reasons.
My girlfriend is a gimp, she's got CP and uses a wheelchair to get around. She told me about how the Center for the Disabled likes to use force and trickery to get gimps to sign away their freedom, this almost happened to one of our friends. He's got a pretty severe case of CP, he can't walk at all and has that semi-twisted countenance, however his mind is intact. He's unfortunately the product of a mother who called him stupid all his life, so he almost signed the paperwork the Center pushed onto him. This paper is a form that declares you 'mentaly challenged.' This is how the center takes away your life, once you declare yourself retarded they get legal rights to make all your desisions for you, with the help of handy dandy diagnosyses from the Center's own doctors. They actualy threatened my friend with calling the police and having them say he is a danger to himself if he didn't sign the papers. Fortunately for him my GF and her best friend (who btw has a condition that restrics him to a chair, dependent on others for care, and who is now 40 despite doctors saying he should have died by the time he was 10) were in the building and able to intervein and let our friend know thet his right to live independently can't be taken from him. The Center for the Disregarded dropped their bluff and has not tried anything since, though many people who only need in home care are not always so fortunate to have fellow gimps as advocates. He's been living indepentantly for ten years now.
The Center for the Disregarded (Disabled) is basicly a clearing house for parents who don't want the burden of having a handicapped child in their home. If you want little gimpy Johnny to go away, just sign his social security benifits over to the Center and they will be happy to take him off your hands! He'll be making paper bookmarks and macaroni pictures in no time. What's that you say? He's not mentaly handicapped? No problem, just say he is....
The Center for the Institutionalizing of Gimps (these are all terms used by the handicapped community, including gimp) lies about the money it raises! After the telethon thing was over at the hotel where I work, I overheard a couple Center employees talking about the money they raised. The old employee told the newer employee that they don't raise much money from the telethon. So what they do is tally up the whole year's fund raisers and use the total from that as their publicly declared ammount for said telethon.
The Center loves to trot out their most prized gimps for fund raising pitty displays. Nothing burns the independent gimp community more than organizations playing up the pitty angle. Ask my GF, she's a half-right, has been from birth. She needs no pity. Ask her best friend, who is a full gimp with a progressing degenerative condition if we should pitty him, he'll tell you to fuck off, his life is great!
Well that is my tirade for now, as always pay no attention to the spelling errors.

and i agree with your rant. the disability advocacy and workers field is rife with people 'trying to help' who fuck things up.
The singing indian 7-11 man was a little weird at first, but I kinda like it now lol.
