So yesterday was a pretty awesome day, our down day. I slept in, then planned to go for a swim in the ocean... but the beach was closed (some crap about the tide coming in... yeah, 2 foot swells are scary...). This was my second attempt to go for a swim, and the second time I was thrwarted... so I'm giving up for now.
Instead I splurged and got a massage... blissful. I must now get massages at least once a month. The best waste of money ever. After that, I went to the office, did some work, spent some quality time with the internet.
I bailed out and went to a special crew screening of "the Aristocrats" that Penn set up. I had already seen it opening night in L.A. but it was fun to go with the crew, and it was SO worth the second screening.
After the screening, I headed to the lounge where Penn and our magic consultant, Mike, were doing an impromptu jazz session (Mike on piano, Penn on bass). Most of the crew didn't show up, surprisingly. I sat at the "cool kids table" with P&T crew (the P&T crew are more fun and more relaxed then the regular crew guys, so I have ingratiated myself into their group). After the jazz and the chatting, some of the group split off for bed. One of the producers, camera guys, Mike, and myself went to the bar to grab some snacks and drinks.
I wasn't drinking, because it had now been over 48 hours since I had ingested anything besides water. I finally felt ready to eat something - 2 pieces of quesadilla (which ended up making me sick this morning). The group shifted around when we met up with more crew members at the bar. I was introduced to Nate, who was one of the magic techs with P&T. We hit it off and spent most of the rest of the night chatting, while the rest of our group went to the casino. Then Russ, our prop master, wandered in for a drink. He couldn't sleep, so we ended up griping about the awful shooting conditions until bedtime.
So, I am quite pleased with myself... I have gotten over all my anxiety and homesickness and am actually having a nice time. I still get waves of anxiety, and am still feeling physically ill (looks like no food for me again today... oh well, I probably lost 5 pounds in the last 2 days and look great... my jeans are a size too big... silver lining to every cloud).
Today we fly to the Caymans. Wish me luck! I have to fit 5 days worth of junk into one JanSport backpack, or be forced to take an enormous suitcase
