So my time at Ballys is almost over. Everybody's been really cool...some of the attendants are even taking me out for drinks after I'm done. There's been a lot of goodbyes, and a lot of old stories being told. When I stop and think about it, I've done and seen stuff I might never experience again. Here's just a few examples...
-I've held $73,000 in my hand (and I could just barely hold it one hand).
-I've met Dr J (the greatest basketball player ever!) several times, and I swear it was like I was eight years old again every time...he's really cool.
-I've had voodoo curses put on me.
-I've been cursed out in at least eight different languages (english, french, spanish, albanian, russian, chinese, japanese, korean and a few more)...it's more fun when you have a translator with you, because they blush when you ask what was said.
-I met a man who landed on Utah beach on D-day. We didn't get to talk for long, but he told me a little about it, and his attitude and spirit were amazing and inspiring. I'll never forget him giving just a little chuckle and telling me, "At least we had a beach...those guys at Omaha (beach, the main landing point) had to climb up a cliff."
-I've watched six foot plus guys in drag hit on employees and players hit on Sam, the waiter who was becoming a waitress.
-I've signed checks for over $100,000.
-And my favorite, the lady who was skipping around the casino floor with a butterfly net one night...we never did find out why.
But mostly it was the people that made the job so fun, both employees and players. Some are really cool and fun, some are the biggest bastards on the planet, but they can all be pretty interesting. Every day I got to meet normal people just in for a good time, and they all had their own story. The best times were when you got to pay a big jackpot off to someone who might have only come down for the day with $100 to play...they might never be a high roller, but at least for a little while you can make them feel like one. And my co-workers? Lots of good times.
Yup, it's been fun, but in about a week I'll be off to the next adventure.
