A belated Happy St Pats to all...hope everyone got to go out and have a good time.
I spent my weekend computer free up in Philly. I was a little worried at first, because I left during that wicked ice storm on friday afternoon. About 20 minutes into my drive it started to get nasty...soon the AC expressway speed limit was lowered to 35mph, and you couldn't go for a mile without passing someone who had skidded off the road and ended up slamming into the trees. With road closings and such my hour drive turned into about two and a half, and plans to see a hockey game were quickly canceled. I did venture out on the streets on foot to find some dinner, then settled in for the night.
Luckily the weather broke, and my best friend met up with me saturday morning and we headed off to Tir Na Nog to begin the festivities. I have to say, I really appreciate any holiday where an acceptable breakfast consists of a chedder omlette, potatoes and a Guinness, washed down with an irish coffee. We ended up spending the day there with another friend, drinking black and tans and irish car bombs. For entertainment they had rugby on all day and bands on at night...the headliner was a band called Barleyjuice, who are awesome (and there was enough of us there who knew there songs that it became quite a show)! They played for at least three hours with a couple of breaks, and were still going strong when we headed out sometime after ten. Stopped for some dinner on the way back to help with the 9+ hours of drinking on the day, then got a good night's sleep before heading home in good weather today. It was a fun trip and a nice end to my vacation.
Oh, and my new hero? The guy with the cajones to wear a sombrero and poncho to an irish bar on St Pats.
Sorry for the lack of pictures, between the weather, the crowds and the amount of alcohol I knew I would consume I decided to leave it at the hotel.
*To those that answered my shameless bid for attention on my last blog...thank you. Y'all really made my day.
