I'm bummed anytime I have a hoodie in the washer or dryer and the pull string somehow gets pulled out and I have to re-thread it back through. It's happened enough, I've become a pro at putting the strings back in. I'm just not a big fan of doing so.

Double knot the strings?? I got tired of doing the giant safety pin re-thread too
