They just completed a new store in my neighborhood. I am not actually sure how local or not local this grocery chain is, but they have put their flagship store just up the street from my house. It is pretty remarkable as far as a grocery goes. There is a Whole Foods and a Trader Joe's on the same corner and not too far is an AJ's (local) Fine Foods which specializes in high end foods. I would have to say these 3 places should probably get worried.
The store opened on the first but I didn't check it out until yesterday. I was pretty impressed and I didn't even make it through the whole store. They have valet and covered parking and auto detailing while you wait. Their bistro/deli/tortilleria/bakery/meat dept is immense, their wine selection and cooking school are gorgeous and I sampled so many things each better than the last. They have all kinds of hard to find veggies so I ended up with dragon fruit and white sapotes and a few other interesting things I had to google to figure out how to prepare. They have these $100 melons there too. I really want to try one but they are about the size of a watermelon and I would not be able to eat it all before it spoiled and I would feel bad wasting a $100 melon.
This chain does put in some really nice stores, but this one really takes it up to that next level. I think I ruined my diet just on free samples yesterday, lol. They have date night cooking school where you learn to make a meal with a local executive chef and then get to go select a wine and eat dinner in their private cooking school dining room. It is granite and wood and gorgeous and has the valet parking so it doesn't even seem weird to go do this on a Friday night. I signed up for one of the classes. I'm a pretty decent cook but I'm sure I can learn some new and good tips from these pro's.
Aside from my foray to the new store and trying some strange new fruits (has anyone else ever actually bought a whole passion fruit? How weird is THAT inside?) I have been really busy with school. I started a couple new classes and then have some summer classes still going on, so I'm really busy.
