My son is 17 years old. He just finished his second semester of college and took PSY101. After taking the class he asked me if he could make an appointment with a psychiatrist (the MD who diagnoses and prescribes, not the one who listens and makes behavioural adjustments) for a head check. He thought he was not focusing on school work as well as he should.
So after the 2 month wait, he had his appointment yesterday. The doctor asked all kinds of questions, she talked to him about him and to me about his birth and my pregnancy and his early childhood. After our 1.5 hour appointment, she told me he was a well adjusted, polite and conscientious young man and I did a "remarkably good job" raising him
She is sending him for a brain scan because of all of the autism and Asperger's in my family history but overall she thinks he is good.
I knew he was awesome and I think I got pretty lucky with him as far as not having any bullshit with police, or him breaking stuff or being a terror or an asshole or anything but it was still nice getting professional confirmation about the whole thing.
The things a young woman goes through when she chooses to have and keep her child at 16 are pretty intense. A lot of deep wounds there. It is a bit of a vindication when my son grows up to be really decent so far. There are 2 parent households who don't have it that good. I feel pretty good about it![smile](https://dz3ixmv6nok8z.cloudfront.net/static/img/emoticons/smile.0d0a8d99a741.gif)

Congrats on the diagnosis though. I really hope my sister will one day have the same pride you have since she's a single mom with a little boy.
