I feel accomplished but MY GOD does my finger hurt!!! I have a room in my house which ends up being the catchall and has no real purpose. I don't know why I like homes with multiple living rooms but then can never really figure out what to do with one of them. Enter Craigslist and an ad for a broken 55" HDTV. Finally a purpose for the room!!! It can be the gaming and second TV room.
Not being one to back away from a challenge, I rented a truck from the Home Depot and sent my husband to go pick it up while I took our son to the dentist. I read the description the guy had of what broken thing it was doing and found a web site which sells TV repair kits (http://www.tvrepairkits.com) I ordered the kit and it came 3 days later in the mail. I then had to go to Radio Shack and buy a new soldering gun and desoldering gun since that stuff all got destroyed when we moved.
I spent the last hour and a half dismantling the beast and desoldering some chips and a resistor from the main board and re-soldering new ones. At one point I crossed the soldering irons cord over the desoldering iron and it started smoldering and I lost focus for a second and burnt myself right an proper. It is blistering and oozing :*( I think this will be a battle scar.
On the plus side, the TV works now

that's amazing. a mission- accomplished! Do you have any freecycle forums in the u.s? we have them in manchester..similar to craigslist, but an email forum with offered/wanted items. x
