Taking a break from my campaign to be Miss Horrorfest to announce that Element a440's new drummer kicks ASS!! Went to their first return show and had a great time. Great Party.
Also, if anyone remembers the tragedy I had a few months back when my dear Siamese cat got poisoned and died, I finally decided I was ready to get a new girl cat. I love my big black boy cat and my sketchy feral cat outside, but I wanted another loudmouth Siamese, because I have always had a Siamese cat.
One of my tenants told me that his mom had a stray who wandered in to her place 2 years ago and has had a bunch of litters of kittens. He said she was a Siamese and since his mom is allergic she doesn't want any of the dozens of cats she now has around. I agreed to go look at the kittens since they are at least half or a quarter Siamese. When I got there the place was in the ghetto of ghettos. It was really bad. A whole bunch of kids carried the kittens out and showed them to me. Then the mom cat wandered out and she was gorgeous. Not a mix, she is tall and skinny with a long face and big ears. The kids told me how she keeps having kittens, they had several kittens from several litters she has had. Then one of the kids tossed one of the kittens across the parking lot because it was squirming. That made me so sad I was going to take the kitten who got tossed since the kids said they didn't like that one and I was worried for its safety. But I really came for the Siamese. I finally sucked up and decided I cam for the mother cat and I'm taking the mother cat, she needs to get spayed and stop living in a tweak den having kittens. As we drove away she was so unhappy and I just didn't feel right. I thought my god, there are 3 female kittens there who are all going to have the same fate as her. I turned around and decided I would take all of the female kittens (they would not give me the males). SO I now have a mother and 3 kittens. But at least they live in a MUCH nicer neighborhood, are eating right and getting proper care and will get spayed and not thrown around.
I kept them quarantined away from my other cats until I could have them tested for FLV and FIV. Soo.... $400 later, I have 4 possibly FLV positive cats, the ELISA test came back positive for the mother. They are sending blood off to a lab for a final word. We'll see how this goes. Now the poor things have to keep living in my laundry room until I hear hopefully good news back. I wasn't exactly expecting this bill, and it's not even close to done yet, I haven't had the kittens tested yet, because we decided testing the mom first was the best idea. Grrr..... And I still need to have them all spayed and shots if they aren't all FLV positive. If they have FLV I will have to put them all down to spare them the horrible death FLV brings. How depressing. The saddest part is the mother and kittens could have been spared all of this with a vaccine. My cats are vaccinated against this horrible virus (though there is still a tiny chance they could get it), but the people who had them couldn't even get her spayed, instead over the last 2 years the poor thing has had kitten after kitten after kitten. That is just too sad. There is even a low cost spay program in town where if you are poor you can have it done for $15.
Anyway, just an update. Please cross your fingers it was a false positive and I have 4 healthy cats who I can let out of my laundry room soon. They are playing in the back yard right now and I'm watching them and have my feet keep being play things, but now of course I have 2 other unhappy cats staring out my bedroom window wondering why they are locked up.
And here is mom, she is so beautiful I can't even explain. And she is a ninja, whenever my poor little dog comes out of his hole (he dug himself a den a few years ago) she flies at him and busts out some scary ninja moves on him. Poor little guy, I want them to be friends, he is about the same size as the mom cat and a total wuss. I'm trying to get these photos higher resoloution, because the Nikon software I'm trying to save it in is fucking up the colors. They look awesome in the .NEF format off the camera and then when I save them to .jpg they look crazy and now they are too big. Argh, I'm trying to get the hang of this new software and it isn't working out so well, I don't think I like it too much. Once it converts to .jpg it looks garish.

Since I kind of got busy and never gave an update about that little girl:
I didn't get as much money as I would have liked, but I bought her shoes and a couple little jacket things and some other little goodies from Target. She was SOOO happy! I have not talked to the family since I brought the stuff by, I hope they are improving in their situation.

I just love your new profile pic! I'm sorry for being so quiet and not commenting on your blogs. Those cats seem so adorable. We're moving house in November and after our annual vacation in March I want to get a kitten. Not sure what the dogs will do with it though ... Have a great week!
