I had a photo shoot yesterday and it was cool (because of who the photog was and the project it was for) and it was oh my god all at the same time. Everything that could go wrong did. I had to go far out into noplace because I wanted to shoot it in this cool historic place and on the way there I ran over a sharp rock and decimated the tire. I had a spare, but the truck has all wheel drive and traction control and the spare was factory size and the tires I have on it are quite a bit larger than factory. So that wasn't going to work. We didn't make it out to the place I wanted to be, so we ended up shooting where we were stuck. I had a friend in another truck coming behind us but it was getting late at this point. I wore shoes which are tall platforms and flat on the bottom so walking over rocks was not even in the cards, I'd step wrong and my center of gravity would get thrown and I'd just topple over, nothing I could do. I must have fallen 10 times, and remember my hand is already broken. Bees everywhere and I'm allergic to them and then the truck could not drive. My friend showed up with the other truck eventually and we traded cars. The photographer had a second shoot after me and had to get to it. So it was like 9 before we got back to town and almost 10 when I got home. My friend is still out in the middle of nowhere with my truck. Fix a flat wouldn't help this giant rip. So off to find a 24 hour tire place. No luck. I remembered I had some tires in my storage shed. I checked and they are the right size. I had a 5th rim for the truck too. So I found some 24 hour places that service big rigs. I called a bunch and they all said we don't do passenger cars. Then I checked if the bolt pattern on my roommates truck would fit, but it doesn't he has a jeep I have an Isuzu. My roommate, bless his heart, suggested we just show up at a truck place and see if they don't take pity on us. We threw the tire and rim into his truck and headed to the middle of the ghetto of all ghettos and found the head office for a 24 hour commercial truck tire service place. The guy there was so nice, he had a field guy coming back in so we hung with him a bit and waited for the guy to come back. He was really cool, I think he was about 4 feet tall and all muscle. He threw the large tire down on the rim and then threw himself onto the tire like he was doing a push up on it. It was like art. He rubbed goo all over it and then pushed the other side of the tire on. He filled it with air, checked the pressure and didn't charge us. I tried to give him money and he wouldn't take it. It was very cool. So now it is like midnight and we embark on our trek back out into noplace. Finally around 3-4 we got everyone home, everyone had their right vehicles and all was good and a very exhausted Midnyte fell asleep in the middle of her living room floor, too exhausted to even make it to the back of the house and her bed.
What a day!
